Lyndsey and Blake met when working at Carrabba’s Italian Grill in Concord, North Carolina. At the time, Lyndsey was in her senior year at East Carolina University and worked at the restaurant when she was home from school. The two got to know each other over Thanksgiving and Christmas breaks during outings with coworkers and learned that they also had mutual friends. After dating on and off for quite some time, the pair reconnected and got serious in May of 2014.
Blake proposed to Lyndsey in their kitchen. She had worked from home that day to continue caring for Blake, who had recently had oral surgery. She was working on her laptop when he came up behind her and kissed her head. She continued working, not thinking too much of the gesture. When Blake took the ring out of the box and placed it on her keyboard he certainly got her attention! Little did she know, Blake had picked up the ring that afternoon while she ran errands. Because his mother, aunt and uncle didn’t answer their phones, he was unable to leave it with one of them and had to bring it home with him. He couldn’t figure out where to hide the box (Lyndsey likes to reorganize the closet and dresser drawers pretty frequently). After a long phone conversation with his uncle, he decided just to give it to her. Blake says it was because he didn’t know where to hide it, while Lyndsey says it was the oxycodone he was on post-surgery.
The December wedding was held at Trinity United Methodist Church, where the pair attends while vacationing at their beach condo, followed by a reception at Surf Golf & Beach Club. The color scheme was navy and gold with lots of greenery. The low lighting added a romantic feel and the winter-themed flowers included white and blush roses, white hydrangeas, silver brunia, thistle, winter greens and blue berries. Lyndsey wore an illusion neckline dress with stunning lace detail made by designer Pronovias. The groom and groomsmen wore charcoal gray Michael Kors suits and the bridesmaids wore navy dresses from the Vera Wang line at David’s Bridal, paired with gray faux fur shrugs gifted by the bride. The bride’s younger sister served as maid of honor and the groom’s older brother was best man. Each tier of the couple’s cake created by Cakes by the Sea was a different flavor and included carrot cake, red velvet and vanilla. The bride and her sister created all the signage used in the wedding and her family brought in their own decorations—lanterns, candles, votives, painted vases and more. The couple took dance lessons to learn how to waltz for their first dance, “Come Live with Me” by Ray Charles.
